FAQ

You’ve got questions - we’ve got answers!

Pricing & Billing Questions:

  • How much is a party?

    • Our parties are $35 per participant, not including the cost of groceries. Our base cost is $175 which is inclusive of up to 5 participants. Any additional participants is $35 per person.

  • Are groceries included?

    • Unfortunately not! See the next question for more information on groceries.

  • How much are groceries?

    • We aim to keep all household grocery costs around or below $35 (per person, per menu), but this may vary based on how many people you are cooking for in your location. We cook with a lot of household items so you may already have a lot in your pantry!

  • What is the maximum number of participants I can schedule a class for?

    • We offer four different styles of Hungry Hangouts classes, designed around the participants' ages. Our class size maximums for each style are:

      • Virtual Kids Class 1st - 4th Grade (adult supervision required): 10 kids

      • Virtual Big Kids Class 5th Grade +: 15 kids

      • Virtual Family Class: 25 Participants

      • Virtual Adults Class: 35 Participants

  • What if we have a lot of attendees? Does the price go down?

    • Yes! If you have more participants than our class maximums, we will switch to a cooking demonstration format. With higher numbers of participants, it becomes increasingly challenging to provide individualized feedback. Therefore, we switch to a webinar-style presentation where you cook along with us but video/audio is off for the participants. Contact us directly for pricing!

  • What if I will be cooking with 3 people in my home but using one screen? Do I count as 1 or 3 people?

    • Participants are based on the individuals that are participating, not screens - so it could be a family (1 screen, with 5 people) and the cost is $175. This is because we include everyone in the process and engage with everyone fully -  to riff off the proverb, “we count all the cooks in the kitchen!”.

  • What if all participants want to pay separately?

    • We do ask that one person pays for the party. We recommend doing Venmo or Zelle to have others send you the amount.

  • I want to organize a class for my company. Do you have special corporate pricing?

    • Yes! For corporate classes, we charge based on the actual attendance of each party, with a 50% deposit due prior to the start time.

Booking Process Questions:

  • How do I sign up?

    • Glad you asked! Send an inquiry form using this link. We will confirm the date availability and send you back a time. From there, you will get a personalized booking link where you pay the deposit (this will automatically send you the calendar invite and zoom link for your party). You will also receive menu options to choose from. One week before the party, you will get a grocery list and the recipes.

  • Do I get to pick the menu?

    • We take into consideration each group's desires and limitations before proposing different menu options. We aim to complete at least three separate recipes within each 2-hour time block, focusing on seasonal ingredients that are approachable for all culinary backgrounds. Of course, your happiness is our priority, so if there is something you wish to change, we are happy to curate the best experience possible.

  • What if we have dietary restrictions?

    • We got you - we are here to accommodate restrictions! Please let us know as soon as possible before we start menu planning!

  • How do I know what ingredients to get?

    • All recipes and related grocery lists will be shared one week before the start of the party. We strongly believe learning is a continuous process, so afterward, we curate a list of resources specifically for your group!

  • What if I need to cancel?

    • All Hungry Hangouts classes are non-refundable. Of course, we understand situations arise! If you need to reschedule your class, please let us know at least 48 hours before your booking, and we can find a new time that works best for you. Any cancellations or no-shows later than that will be subject to our schedule availability.

  • What if people don’t show up?

    • Things happen! The spots you have reserved remain yours, so we encourage you to invite another individual to attend the party. We will work with you and your party to get everyone up to speed in time before the class begins!

Party Time Questions:

  • What should I wear?

    • You do you! But we do recommend if you have long luscious locks that you keep your hair tied back. You may want to take off any jewelry or dangly clothing that may get in the way of your cooking.

  • What do I need to do before the party?

    • If you’re an eager beaver, we recommend getting out the ingredients (except for refrigerated items) and the equipment that you need (e.g. spatulas and large mixing bowls). All details are listed on your recipe cards! For our children’s parties, we offer a pre-class checklist for kids and parents to make sure everyone is prepared!

  • Should I attend my children’s class?

    • All parties with children in 1st-4th grade will require active adult supervision. We promise to make it fun for you and the kiddos! For all other children’s classes, supervision is up to your own discretion, and any potential safety hazards will be detailed in full prior to the start of the party. You know your kids better than we do, so we will lead with your direction!

  • Do I need any special cooking equipment?

    • We use the basics and inform you on the recipe card of what equipment you will need! If you have an oven, stove, mixing bowls, and some pots and pans - then you will be good to go!

  • Should I read the recipe beforehand?

    • We’d recommend reading it over once through so you have an idea of the process. No need to memorize anything, we are here to guide you through the process!

  • How long is the party?

    • All parties are 2 hours long! Need it shorter or longer? Let’s chat!

  • What is the flow of a party?

    • Once everyone logs on we do some introductions, everyone goes around and tells three fun facts about themselves (just kidding, that sounds awful). After we welcome you all, we’ll talk a little about the food history and the recipe rundown. We then dive in and start cooking! Questions are encouraged throughout! We sprinkle in food facts and general cooking tips you can apply beyond this specific menu, as one of our goals is food education! By the end of the 2 hours, you will have a meal ready to eat (and probably some leftovers too!). We will all take a bite together and discuss the flavors then we log off to give you screen-free meal time.

  • Can we talk during the party?

    • What kind of party is this? We are called Hungry Hangouts for a reason. We want you to hang out, be yourself, and enjoy! Whether the group gets off topic and deep dives into the “does pineapple belong on pizza” debate - or you have loads of questions and keep your microphone on the whole time - we are here for you!

  • Will I need to turn on my video/audio?

    • If you prefer to have video/audio off, that is up to you! You can always ask questions in the chat if things come up. If you have more than 20 participants, all video/audio will be off for participants. If it is 20 or under, we love to keep it casual and have you laugh, chat, and enjoy your time together!

  • Will we eat during the party?

    • When we are finished with the 2-hour cooking party, you will have a delicious meal prepared for you to eat on your own! While we will enjoy a bite together and may taste things along the way, we aim to have the meal ready by the end of the party. That said, if you’d like an appetizer on the side to munch on as you cook - please do! Cooking does make you hungry : )

  • If I’m an adult, can I drink during the party?

    • Oh yes. Definitely yes. Please do, honestly. We are also happy to do wine pairings and/or cocktail creations by request.

  • What if I have a family member who wants to join in? Do I have to pay for them?

    • Anyone who is participating is considered a participant (you’re welcome for that super helpful explanation). Basically, yes. Because we offer feedback and interact with all, our pricing is not based on “per screen” but on “per participant”. If you need to add people in at the last minute let us know.
